I Want To Be A Reviewer! Episode 5!

April 15, 2012

Hey All!

Remember me?

No?

Well that seems about right, last year at about this time I debuted a show called “I Want To Be A Reviewer!” to mixed praise… some good (such as being featured on CRITIC TV, and some bad… “why don’t you actually review things?”) Yeah those were the golden days… time passed and Episode 5 slipped further and further and further down my list of things to accomplish behind work, money, sleeping, eating, and amateur curling.

Fast forward to two months ago when I was approached by a gentleman who had a genuine interest in seeing this continue… perhaps even more so than myself.

And that brings us to today… after about 80 hours and multiple re-shoots and growing pains about making the leap to HD and using fancy things like “microphones” here is “I Want To Be A Reviewer” Episode 5. My labor of love. I know some of the audio is kind of quiet. It’s still new to me. ๐Ÿ˜›

I do love this community, I love the people in it, the camaraderie, the common bonds we all have, and the sheer amount of effort that happens here to make something, put it out there, and hope that it is well received. To me, it doesn’t matter if you have 5 views or 500,000, if you are proud of what you made and enjoyed yourself doing it, you are already a success. I personally thank the people that helped me with this, especially The PC Game Inspector and Sammy Kablam who see a potential that I really do not. Haha. Just kidding. And also to Rosen for making time and of course Miss Sofie Liv who found time from her illustrious career of being as fabulous as Miss PIggy. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Please enjoy this episode and I will be getting back on a regular schedule now I think… and if you are offended, perturbed, smile, laugh, or chuckle…. well I’ve done my job. ๐Ÿ™‚

I Want To Be A Reviewer Episode 4!

May 22, 2011

Hey All!

Sorry this took so long, I’ve been busy with stuff and working on other movie related stuff! I am very proud of this Episode and more proud of myself for making it this far! Please Enjoy!

After the Buttercream we continue to review things, and decide most recently to take a look at a drink, video game, and comic. Upon completing the reviews however it becomes clear that this very well could be the last review…

I Want To Be A Reviewer! Episode 3

May 2, 2011

Well, the time has come and Josh can no longer ignore the obvious… with the help of the Internal Reviewer he reviews a movie… but is this really for the best?

I enjoyed making this episode and always intended this movie to be the first I really review… let me know what you think! Enjoy and thanks for watching! ๐Ÿ™‚

IWTBAR Episode 3 Update

May 2, 2011

Well, it’s about 90% done, I have to say though honestly… I was a bit out of my comfort zone for the whole thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love the whole entirety of “reviewerdom”, but when I hear my words remarking on something, it just doesn’t feel right always. I feel my talents are more based towards emoting on video, than giving opinion on a subject. I guess only time will tell, my video will be up tomorrow, and then we shall see. ๐Ÿ™‚

I Want To Be A Reviewer! Episode 2

April 28, 2011

Well, now we have a set and the Internal Reviewer is raring to go, but I still have my doubts about the little idiosyncrasies that make for a great show…

I had a great time making this episode… though I bruised my head pretty good on the shelves as well as having to re-record half of the footage after I imported it to realize it was all under-lit. *facepalm* Oh well.. live and learn. ๐Ÿ™‚

Enjoy! Thanks for Watching! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thoughts on Salt (Spoilers)

April 26, 2011

I just got finished with the mess that is Salt. Now, I went into this with an open mind, though I had heard it was pretty mediocre. Angelina Jolie plays Evelyn Salt a CIA operative who has returned to normal life after being captured in North Korea years prior. She’s about to head home when her boss and friend Winter tells her that she has to interrogate this one guy Orlov before leaving. Long story short he reveals that she herself is a Russian spy and moves are being made against ย the American as well as Russian governments. He escapes and she does as well after crafting a rocket launcher out of a fire extinguisher.

Now the race is on to catch up to Orlov, find her husband, and play her part in events to come. The movie it’s self is well paced with decent action sequences and a mysterious air to it. The hook of the movie is trying to figure what side Salt is on… is she Russian, is she American? What’s the greater goal? The short answer is she’s with everyone. She was raised to be a Russian plant in the American government, but when it comes down to it, she chooses America over Russia. Her boss Winter is the real spy, infiltrating the CIA and almost single handedly launching a nuclear war.

There’s some glaring things that don’t add up though, when Winter goes to launch the nukes, he aims for the Middle East claiming that “they won’t stand for the death’s of nine million people by America’s hand”… I thought we were pissing off the Russians? Last time I checked they were still too busy fighting each other, so I guess just anyone will do. I understand Winter as a Russian plant wouldn’t aim them at this own country…but he could have picked a more populous area.

The film relies far too much on flashbacks to tell it’s story. The opening is “Two Years Ago” and then “Present Day” and then Orlov’s tale is told through narrated flashback’s. The majority of Salt and her husband’s story are flashbacks. Salt flashesback every time something significant happens in the story. It seems like every other scene we are flashing back to fill some hole in the story. It’s a tacky move and the sure sign of a weak storytelling.

The largest hole of all falls at the end of the film, when Salt is finally captured and asked about what she has done. She claims that Winter (Who she kills in the scene prior despite armed guards and an escort) was the only one who could have told them the truth… not really. Winter revealed himself in the bunker and killed everyone in front of the president before knocking him out. The president is alive… unconscious at the end of the movie, but alive. There wouldn’t have been any reason to NOT tell people that Winter killed everyone in the bunker and clear Salt’s name. Instead we get sequel bait. Salt tells Peabody (who has been tracking her all this time) that she can find the other plants, he agrees and un-cuffs her. She releases the emergency hatch on the chopper and escapes…

Salt wasn’t terrible, it was just average. Average action, average story, average film. The “nuclear-destroy-the-world-everyone-dies” plot has been done to death. I admit I didn’t understand the direction the film was taking from the get-go and that intrigued me… but as soon as someone dropped the nuke (metaphorically) mentally I checked out. It plays in three acts: Act 1 is about Salt and her husband, Act 2 is about Salt and Orlov, and Act 3 is about Salt and Winter. If you are wondering about this husband guy… don’t. He spends more time in the excessive flashbacks than in the actual story taking place. Salt wasn’t a box office smash and one of those movies that become good trailer-bait for summer.

Bottom line: If you want average and have 100 minutes to kill, give it a watch.
